COMING FROM THE SOUTH OF FT. COLLINS
Get on Highway 287 North of Fort Collins
1. a) You can do this by driving straight up (North) College Ave. from the south. Keep going all the way to the North end of town until the road starts to turn to the left.
Go to #2.
b) If you are on I-25, take the CO 14 West exit 269B (this is also called Mulberry St. later) Go left (West) toward Ft. Collins. Go right at the Lemay St intersection. Go North on Lemay to Vine St. Take a left on Vine (at the railroad tracks). Go West on Vine to the intersection with College Ave. Go right (North) on College and keep going until the road starts to turn to the left. 2. Yes, you're still on North College Ave. Keep going until you pass the big Jax Farm and Ranch Store on your right - go through the traffic light and take the Hwy. 287 North exit to the right. 3. OPTION #1 - Poudre Canyon (most scenic route - longer driving time, best driven during warmer months).
PLEASE NOTE: We DO NOT recommend taking Hwy 14 in the winter!
Continue about 7 minutes on Hwy. 287 until you see signs for Route 14, Poudre Canyon. Turn left onto Route 14 - you'll see the big Conoco station there at the corner. Check you odometer and drive 30 miles (about 45 minutes) up the canyon. Don't forget to load your camera beforehand! You're about 1.5 miles from your next turn when you see the "Indian Meadows" sign on the right. Get ready to turn right onto a dirt road when you see a brown sign that says: "National Forest Access - Pingree Hill Road" The next green sign will also point the way to Red Feather Lakes. These signs are directly across the street from the Rustic Resort. TURN RIGHT. If you pass the Rustic Resort, you just missed your turn. Just 3.2 more miles up the mountain. Beautiful, but be careful on the turns. Once you reach the top of the hill and start going downhill, look to the left for the Red Feather Ranch - Lodge and B&B sign. It's not real large, so slow down. Turn left into the driveway and then to the parking lot. You're Here!! (you'll know you missed the driveway if you find yourself at a 3-way intersection by a log cabin) Go back one step.......
4. OPTION #2 - Boy Scout Ranch Road (also scenic route -- Shorter drive time)
Once you turn onto Hwy. 287 North, continue on Hwy. 287 past the Conoco Station for about 10 miles. Look for signs for Red Feather Lakes, Boy Scout Ranch Rd. and Rt. 74E. Turn left here on Hwy. 74E. The FORKS Restaurant and gas pumps will be on the corner. Continue 16 miles and look for signs for Boy Scout Road and County Rd. 68C. Turn left. Drive 7 miles (13 minutes or so) until you reach an intersection with mail boxes. Stay to your left, and go up the hill 1/4 mile, follow the red fence, to the Red Feather Ranch - Lodge and B&B sign. Turn right into the driveway and then to the parking lot.
5. OPTION #4 - To Avoid Going Through Ft. Collins
1. Drive North from Ft. Collins on I-25 until you get to Exit 281 - Owl Canyon Rd.
2. Take this exit and turn left (West). Drive on this paved road for about 5 miles until you reach a stop sign. Go straight for another 4 miles. This road turns into a dirt road and turns sharp to the right at one point. Drive until you reach a stop sign - turn left.
3. Still on dirt road, go about 3 miles until you reach a stop sign. This paved road is Hwy. 287. Turn right and drive 2 miles until you reach the Forks Restaurant. Turn left here on CR 74E - also called Red Feather Lakes Rd.
4. Drive 16 miles on Red Feather Lakes road until you reach CR 68C - also called the Boy Scout Ranch Rd. Turn left here - there will be a sign on your right which says "CR 68C - Boy Scout Rd."
5. Drive on this dirt road for 7 miles until you reach a fork in the road with some mailboxes. Stay to the left and go up the hill for 1/4 mile, follow the red fence, to the Red Feather Ranch - Lodge and B&B sign. Turn right into the driveway and then to the parking lot. |
